Transcript: How to Remove Infill from Used Artificial Grass

Rich: What we're going to do is we're going to pick the turf up with a forklift, shake it and bounce it, and you're going to see the infill fall out. Watch this.

Okay. That's partial. Then, you'll unroll it some more, and repeat and do it until it's all extracted. It'll be really light; about half a pound per square foot.

After the infill has been beaten out, you can see the turf is extremely light and it's really pliable. Don't be afraid; all of this infill we're going to reuse and we're going to put it back on the turf after we've installed it because it's going to be used as ballast. So, it's going to hold the turf down. Sweep it up like this.

After we've swept up all the infill and pulled it off to the side of the turf, after our install, we're going to put the infill right back in. We're going to broom brush it and it's going to disappear and it's going to hold the turf down to the ground.

A Note for Those Trying to Install Artificial Grass Themselves

This may not be an option if you’re taking on a DIY project, but you can simulate the process with smaller portions of artificial grass and equipment as well.
